Enjoy Explore India Social Studies Workshops will focus on the history, geography, ethics and values, religion, economics and government of India to help participants connect with the social fabric of the vast subcontinent and explore its changing face from ancient to present times.
Participants will be introduced to historians and writers from India and around the world who have taken India as their subject. Workshops will make history come alive through age-appropriate projects that creatively use accounts of travelers like Huan Tse-tung from ancient China and the experiences of pioneers like Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, who climbed Mt. Everest, among others who have had a close connection with the history and culture of India. Finally, the workshops will bring the vast subject of India into focus in a lighter way by tackling confounding questions such as: Why do images of Indian gods have so many hands? Why do Indians worship cows? And many more that begin with the challenge: ''Why?''
Workshops have been planned to encourage youth to explore subjects of special interest to them or connected to their personal family history. The workshops will help participants understand the unique philosophies that are the hallmark of this ancient civilization and explore how its culture plays a vital part in their world today. Hands-on projects will bring to life the history of the people and their land, using research into a wide range of topics and the creation of posters, travel brochures, books and display projects to illustrate their understanding of the subject and to share their work with others in a comprehensive and compelling way.
Send your children along with us on this unforgettable journey to India, where they will learn about their culture for themselves.
